Boy, things just aren’t the way they used to be. My grandfather retired from Firestone back in the 80’s with a pension plan that paid out monthly checks to my grandmother even after he died. You just don’t see that kind of care from companies anymore. Times are changing, companies are failing, and people are reconsidering their options on how to make money and support their families. More and more, people are turning to the internet for hope. While there are a number of ways to make money online, this article will focus on how to make money from a website using website advertising.
Well, assuming you already a website, establishing ways on that site to make money are fairly easy to do. The initial question you need to ask yourself is, “How many people per day or per month are visiting my website?” You need traffic to your site to make money. Obviously, if no one is coming to your site, then you can’t make money from your site no matter what. So, first we need to tackle the traffic issue.

I’m glad you asked. First of all, you shouldn’t monetize your site until you have at least 100 visitors per day to your site – that is if you want my opinion. Okay, so to get visitors you need to let people know you exist. There are two main ways to accomplish this:
1) Viral Marketing
Getting visitors virally is simply referring to word-of-mouth advertising. As a virus can pass from one person to the next quickly, so can your website via word-of-mouth. That’s why they call it viral marketing. If you have a topic that’s unique and of interest to the mainstream, then viral marketing may prove to be largely beneficial for you.
2) Google First Page
Now, regardless of other forms of marketing your website, you need to get well ranked on Google. If you’re looking to simply monetize your site with advertising, you’ll want to get free traffic to your site as opposed to using Google Adwords or some other form of pay-per-click advertising. Now once you’ve got traffic coming in to your site, there are several ways to make money from it. Here are a few to get you started:
1) Google Adsense
Google Adsense is one of the most popular ways to generate money from your website using advertising. Opening a Google Adsense account is free, and it’s easy to use. Simply put, you insert a snippet of code on your site, and that code turns into an ad of another company that is selling something that is relevant to your website’s content. So, let’s say you have a site talking about cars. Well, Google will recognize that and post ads from companies in the auto industry. Now every time a visitor from your site clicks on one of those ads, they’ll be taken to the advertiser’s site, and you’ll receive money for that click.
2) Affiliate programs
Affiliate programs are great because you get to sell products that someone else created and earn a commission for every sale. To get started, I recommend signing up with commission junction. There are thousands of products to choose from that you can make money from.
