My generation is what is called the “microwave generation.” We want everything done now…right now! This impatient, demanding view certainly doesn’t change when attempting to learn how to get traffic to your website. We want traffic, and we want traffic now. Now, we need to sit back, and ask ourselves, “Can a dramatic increase in traffic happen overnight?” Probably not. At least not quality traffic. To understand how to get more free traffic to your website fast, you need to understand not only how people find a website, but making sure your website is worthy of someone’s time and energy. After all, the only reason you are looking for traffic is because you want that traffic to yield some kind of a result…..a conversion of sorts. Right? Okay.
First, let’s talk about websites for a bit. You need to have a site that people will want to explore and spend time on. If you have a junk site that you care little about, trust me, your visitors will care little about it too. Keep these three things in mind:
1) MAKE SURE YOUR SITE IS VISUALLY APPEALING
- I’m not saying you need to have all this crazy flash and bells and whistles going off on your site (in fact – don’t), but your site needs to be clean, easy to navigate through, and be easy on the eyes
2) YOUR SITE NEEDS TO PROVIDE SOMETHING OF VALUE TO YOUR AUDIENCE
- You need helpful, relevant, textual content, original photos, video tutorials, etc. The more you give them, the more you will obtain loyal visitors, and the more those visitors will refer your site.
3) GIVE YOUR AUDIENCE CLEAR DIRECTION
- Tell your audience what you would like them to do. Remember, people like to be lead – not sold. There is a difference.
So, assuming your site meets these criterion, let’s talk about how to get traffic to your website for free. So, there are some really great ways to draw in free traffic. Sources like Craigslist, hupages, and squidoo will allow you to post information about your site for people to find out about you. Google Places is a free Google listing that you can use to get your site on the first page of Google for free. You also need to get your website optimized, so it can appear at the top of the SERP’s. Here’s an (article) explaining how to do that. The best way, going back to what I said earlier, about getting free, quality traffic to your site, is viral marketing (word of mouth marketing). Trust me, if you have a site that is of superb quality, people will talk about it.
In closing, I want to encourage you to subscribe to Aweber. Aweber allows your visitors to enter their email address. As a result you get to follow up with them via automated emails. So, imagine this, you have a stream of emails pre-written with valuable information to your subscribers. When someone opts in, or provides their email address, they automatically get a string of emails that you’ve set up over the course of 10 days, 100 days, 1000 days…whatever. This is the most important way that you can keep your site visitors thinking of you, and returning back to your site.
